The main gay area in Mexico City is called Zona Rosa, and is centered around Calle Amberes, just to the west of the city center. The area is one of Mexico City’s primary shopping districts and nightclub areas. Streets are filled with bars and nightclubs, including gay bars.
Leading to Zona Rosa from the Insurgentes Metro is Calle Genova, a pedestrianized street that runs parallel to Calle Amberes, lined with cafes & restaurants with street seating. It is popular with both locals and foreign visitors. Dozens of people hand out flyers to passers by and diners, advertising gay bars. It is also the site of the Corridor de Arte José Luis Cuevas, which occurs on weekends when artists display their works for sale. There are about 40 sculptures on the street, created by young artists.
